ACA Celebrates the Veterans Health Care Improvement Act of 2016

Dec 21, 2016
On December 16, 2016, President Obama signed H.R. 6416, which authorized the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to hire Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) who have a doctoral degree. ACA and its members have advocated for this specific issue for more than five years.
Our country loses approximately 22 veterans a day to suicide, and many more veterans struggle to make the transition to civilian life after serving our nation in uniform. More mental health clinicians means more veterans will get the treatment they deserve.

The provision about LPCs was only included and signed into law due to the efforts of ACA members who took the time to call, email, and in some cases, make a personal visit to their representatives in Washington in support of ACA advocacy campaigns.

Thanks to everyone who fought for this victory!
