ACA Hosts First Federal Budget Briefing Webinar to Address Education Cuts That Will Impact School Counselors

May 24, 2017
President Trump's proposed education budget would eliminate all funding for the Student Support and Academic Enrichments (SSAE) grant program (Title IV, Part A), a federal program that helps school districts provide a well-rounded education by funding school-based mental health programs, school counseling programs, and drug and violence prevention programs.

The SSAE program received its first appropriation last year.

For the current budget year, SSAE received $400 million to sustain school districts nationwide. Compared to the need for such programs, this is merely a drop in the bucket. The American Counseling Association is concerned about the administration’s proposal, and we have urged Congress to reject the President’s budget and fund SSAE at its authorized level of $1.65 billon.
