In a recent Op-Ed published in The Tennessean, ACA member Shawn Spurgeon wrote about the controversial counseling bill being debated in Tennessee that would allow counselors to deny services to clients.
He discussed the importance of following ethical codes: “Mental health professionals have an ethical obligation to reach beyond their own frame of reference and to try to understand their client’s perspective. The ethical codes are designed to prevent counselors from practicing invisible discrimination, which is an oppressive aspect of society.”
