ACA Takes a Stand for the Code of Ethics

Feb 26, 2014
Earlier this morning, ACA President Cirecie West-Olatunji sent a letter to Arizona Governor Janice Brewer asking her to veto S.B. 1062.
President West-Olatunji informed Governor Brewer that this bill was incompatible with the practices of the counseling profession and conflicts with the ACA Code of Ethics. If the bill were to be signed into law, it could very well jeopardize the licenses of over thirteen hundred LPCs in Arizona.

Our Code of Ethics prohibits a counselor from refusing to treat a person on the basis of his or her religious values. The personal values of the LPC cannot play a role in the treatment of an individual, couple, or family.
