The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announces the second in its series on School Climate Survey Webinars: Bullying Prevention.

This Webinar will be offered twice to accommodate schedules:

·Wednesday, March 16, 2011 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm ET

·Thursday, March 17, 2011 11:00 am – 12:30 pm ET

Please register for one of the sessions at http://safesupportiveschools.ed.gov/index.php?id=9&eid=16. During this Webinar, Dr. Brenda Morrison from Simon Fraser University and Dr. Roxana Marachi from San José State University will discuss the relationship between levels of school bullying and victimization, approaches to addressing the problem, and social climate.

Specifically, they will address the following:

·Understanding bullying and power dynamics: Bullying is a relationship problem that requires relationship solutions

·Building understanding of the problem of school bullying (forms, targets, myths, stats)

·Roles: Those who bully, those who are bullied, and bystanders

·Elements/characteristics of effective programs

·A Whole School Approach to School Climate: Re-affirming the relationship base

·Educational Psychology and Bullying Prevention: What works for “learning” works for “prevention”

This Webinar is appropriate for all levels of school staff, administration, and policymakers. It is recommended that at least 3 people, from a range of different positions within a school and/or school district, participate in this Webinar together. For more information, email SSSTA@air.org.
