Dr. Kimberly N. Frazier Begins Term as 71st President of the American Counseling Association

Dr. Frazier will begin serving as the American Counseling Association’s 71st president on July 1, 2022, after serving as ACA President-Elect for the last year.


Dr. Kimberly N. Frazier is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center–New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO). A licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and nationally certified counselor (NCC), Dr. Frazier will begin serving as the American Counseling Association’s 71st president on July 1, 2022, after serving as ACA President-Elect for the last year. 

Dr. Frazier served as president for the Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development from 2016-2017 as well as the mentoring program chair from 2008-2015. Additional leadership roles include serving on the American Counseling Association Governing Council Board and executive committee. She also has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development and the Journal of Mental Health Counseling.  

Dr. Frazier has served as a guest editor for the Journal of Child and Adolescent Counseling special issue on “The Impact of Race, Equity, and Marginalization on Child and Adolescent Populations” in July 2021. Her research areas of interest include the impact of systemic oppression and trauma on marginalized people of color.

Dr. Frazier has conducted trainings, workshops, presentations on best practices applying cultural competency in the workplace, leadership, advocacy and working with children and families of color. Many of her published works can be found in the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, the Journal of Counseling and Professional Psychology, and other national journals and book chapters. 

Dr. Frazier was awarded the American Counseling Association’s most prestigious distinction of ACA Fellow in March of 2021. She is most proud of the work she does encompassing the areas of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion with organizations, universities, and mentoring future leaders.
