Jan 14, 2021
During the 117th Congress, the Committee Democrats will use the pillars and policies presented in the framework to steer the Committee towards achieving health and economic equity.

The House Ways and Means Committee Democrats announced their plan to make the U.S. more just and equitable. The framework, “A Bold Vision for a Legislative Path Toward Health and Economic Equity,” included in the Committee’s report, entitled Something Must Change: Inequities in U.S. Policy and Society, examines how racism, ableism, and other social, structural, and political determinants negatively impact health and economic inequity in the United States.

During the 117th Congress, the Committee Democrats will use the pillars and policies presented in the framework to steer the Committee towards achieving health and economic equity. The pillars and their respective policies are as follows:

Health Equity Pillars:

  • Adaptable, Accessible Technologies and Modernized Infrastructure
  • Appropriate, Adequate, and Trusted Workforce
  • Affordable, Comprehensive, and Accessible Health Care
  • Support to State and Local Governments for Maximum Efficiency of Resources

Economic Equity Pillars:

  • Economic Justice for Workers
  • Economic Justice for Families and Children
  • Retirement Security
  • Investment in Communities from the Ground Up
  • Environmental Justice

The Committee aims to continue this work beyond the 117th Congress.
