As reported by Rolling Stone magazine, Lady Gaga has employed mental health professionals to offer free counseling services to teens who attend her Born This Way Ball tour. In efforts to decrease the stigma around seeking mental health care, she has set up a Born Brave Bus, which will provide individual and group “chats” with mental health professionals in addition to food, fun, and music before her concerts. Teens can discuss pertinent topics such as bullying, depression, social relationships, etc. Teens also will be referred to appropriate community resources for further assistance. Lady Gaga and her mother have recently started the Born This Way Foundation, which has three pillars:

  • Safety. Creating a safe, useful place to celebrate individuality
  • Skills. Teaching advocacy, promoting civic engagement, and encouraging self-expression
  • Opportunity. Identifying ways to implement solutions and impact local communities

This resource may be helpful for counselors working with teens to promote resiliency and mental health.
