Longtime counselor educator and American Counseling Association member Norman Arthur Sprinthall passed away in March in North Carolina. He was 90 years old.

Sprinthall earned a doctorate in education at Harvard University in 1963 and went on to teach as a professor in the counseling and psychology departments at Harvard, the University of Minnesota and North Carolina State University (NC State). He retired as professor emeritus of NC State in 1995.

During his more than 30 years as a counselor educator, Sprinthall served as adviser or co-adviser to 55 doctoral students at three universities. He was a noted researcher, speaker and writer in the area of educational psychology and development, including co-authoring several books with his brother, Richard Sprinthall, on educational and adolescent psychology.

A member of ACA for two decades, he presented at numerous ACA conferences throughout his professional career.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Thies-Sprinthall, who is a professor emerita at NC State.

A private funeral and public celebration of life are being planned for July in Caswell Beach, North Carolina.
