JCD July 2023

The sudden shift to telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic did not change clients’ intentions to seek counseling, finds a study of more than 52,000 young adults published in the July Journal of Counseling & Development. Although more research is needed to compare in-person with telehealth outcomes, the new results offer support for the utility of telehealth counseling and its inclusion in post-pandemic policy and counseling practice. The study also sheds light on racial/ethnic disparities in mental health and contributes to the literature on the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on the mental health of people of color.

Submission Guidelines

For all current journal submissions, prospective authors should prepare manuscripts according to the 2020 Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA; 7th ed.). Additional guidelines can be found by following the link to the specific journal.

Figures in ACA Journals

Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy and content of their artwork. See the APA Publication Manual (7th ed.) pp. 225–250 for detailed formatting and style requirements for any artwork. All figures should be submitted at the approximate size they will appear in the journal. A final copy of figure(s) should be submitted with your final manuscript to the journal field editor as specified in each of the above journal guidelines.

Checklist of artwork requirements:

  • Any text within the figure should be a minimum of 8 points in size for legibility.
  • Artwork should be black only. The use of color in your figure is not acceptable because it will not reproduce. To distinguish different elements in your artwork, use alternate patterns or clearly distinguishable lines (i.e., alternate cross hatching within bar graphs or solid and dashed lines).
  • Keep the use of any shading within the artwork to a minimum and do not place type over shaded areas because it will not be legible.
  • All abbreviations and symbols must be explained in a figure legend or caption (see APA Publication Manual, p. 229). Figure captions are to be supplied on a separate page from the artwork.
  • ACA requires electronic artwork to be at a minimum resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi) up to 1200 dpi. Halftone line screens should be a minimum of 300 dpi. JPEG or PDF files are preferred. Do not embed artwork within your manuscript, but rather insert a figure callout in text and attach artwork as a separate file with your electronic submission.
  • Figure file(s) should be appropriately labeled with author name and/or brief article title for easy identification. (e.g., Smith Counseling Teens Figure 1)
